Ranked among the leading computer-science programs nationwide, the University of Texas at Austin embodies innovation but was hobbled by a patchwork of learning and working space scattered throughout campus. To centralize the department, Pelli Clarke and Partners designed the UT Gates Dell Complex.
Drawing from original design choices on campus, the team used materials such as limestone and brick inspired by original design decisions, integrating the new facility with surrounding buildings. Large glass windows and facade panels give the building a modern feel in keeping with its identity as a center of technological growth. The exterior features QC300 aluminum honeycomb panels in an onyx white blue finish that protect against weather, manage glare, reduce thermal load, and provide shade during peak sunlight hours.
